Actions Beyond Words

The LFSF, with the funding awarded through the Edward E. Ford Foundation and match, is set to implement a comprehensive three-year program encompassing creative art collaborations, training sessions, and workshops. This transformative journey, named ‘Actions Beyond Words’, commences in Spring 2023.

Exploring Language, Behavior, and Diversity: Building a United Future

We aim to delve into the nuances of language and behavior, uncovering embedded meanings and biases. Through this exploration, we empower learners to recognize detrimental aspects and collaboratively construct a set of actionable objectives to unify us.

Cultivating Creativity Through Global Connections

LFSF proudly introduces the Artists in Residence Program, a groundbreaking initiative to bridge cultures and inspire creativity. The call is out for artists hailing from francophone countries across the globe – whether from North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian Ocean, Pacific Islands, or the Caribbean. For 3 to 4 weeks, an artist will collaborate closely with our students to craft a permanent visual art installation that seamlessly weaves in the rich tapestry of their home culture reflected in the materials, techniques, forms, and emotions, creating a profound connection with viewers. With such partnerships, our high school students will forge positive principles and cultivate an appreciation for the diverse yet shared human experience. The enduring art installations will leave an indelible mark on the learning environment of LFSF High.

Empowering Leaders Through Knowledge

In our commitment to advancing inclusivity, LFSF will continue to send six sophomore students to the annual NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC). These emerging leaders return equipped with tools to enrich interracial, interethnic, and intercultural exchanges within their peer groups, families, classrooms, and communities. Meanwhile, two faculty members will attend the annual NAIS People of Color Conference (PoCC) and engage in professional development focused on DEIJ practices. This conference equips educators of all backgrounds with innovative techniques to dissect embedded meanings and biases in language and behavior. Through these strategies, we will instigate positive transformations in our teaching methods. To bolster our journey, external DEIJ consultants will guide us in fostering a more welcoming and secure environment. These consultants will lead tailored workshops, discussions, and training sessions, empowering us with diverse intervention methods, resources, and tools. We aspire to elevate the inclusion of individuals from every heritage, race, religion, gender identity, socioeconomic background, family structure, sexual orientation, and learning difference while embracing the intersectionality of these identities. As we embark on this transformative path, we thank the Edward E. Ford Foundation for enabling us to move ever closer to our goals of creating positive change and nurturing an environment where all can thrive.
